Stop the glorification of busy

Until recently I had a HUGE problem with this. My father abusively drilled into me that if you weren't crazy busy all of the time and working 50+ hours a week you were lazy and not worth anything.
Of course, I knew this to be crap but deep down what I knew didn't matter.

So, I struggle with the joy of being home, benefitting my family and scaling back on the business that was all-consuming for over 2 years.

Here are some quotes that helps to keep me joyful and aligned:

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined." -- Henry David Thoreau

"The standard of success in life isn't the things. It isn't the money or the stuff -- it is absolutely the amount of joy you feel." -- Abraham Hicks

Open Minds = Open Hearts

My family is different than most in my area. Really different. Every year, starting in November we see photos on Facebook like this....

Well, that's neither an open-minded statement nor is it a loving statement.

Here's another one that is super insulting...

Why must people post these??? Should we not be spreading LOVE?  If your child were told in school that he/she were WRONG because they weren't like everyone else it would be called bullying. Aren't we all against that??

I am totally NOT saying don't celebrate your way, I'm NOT saying don't say Merry Christmas to your family and Christian friends. I'm saying look beyond your own back yard. Those who look the same as you as well as those who do NOT look the same as you just might be different. If you are publicly snubbing those who are different what is that telling others about you? What is that telling your children about you? What is it telling those who are different? Maybe that it's NOT okay to be different?

A few years ago I blogged about what we celebrate and I actually had people, who claim to be Christian, tell me that they were saying it to me whether I liked or not. Some went further to bash us for taking paid Christian holidays... with no recognition for the holidays we miss for our own religious beliefs and without asking anything about us, just assuming (incorrectly). Pretty hurtful.

Not my fav photo but an eye-opener for some...

Did you read the small print? I like this next photo best...

And with the above photo I add "LOVE is the reason for this and all the other seasons!"

And here a fav of mine, sent to me by a friend who is a loving accepter of differences...

Open minds mean open hearts. Let spread the love and give our children the best gift of all.. the gift of tolerance and acceptance, shown by example.

It's all about INTENTION. People need to ask themselves what is the meaning by saying it...?

Are they telling people to celebrate as they do? Or are they actually wishing others joy in their hearts this season??

Blessed be one and all this Wonderful Wintery Season. Xo ~Kim

2013 Fat Ass Trail Run

This is my 3rd time running the Fat Ass,  my 6th race and 1st time to be injured. All of which I am proud of!

The FA is, if you are not familiar, a 7.5-25k race, up and down the sides/back of our local ski hill. I have chosen 7.5k for all 3 races. I have run a 1/2 marathon in the past and I feel that the 7.5 is compare able. What it doesn't have in distance it makes up for in hills and rough Terrane.

About 3k into this race I slipped and rolled my ankle. Normally a minimalist shoe person I chose running shoes this time. Between rocks and slippery leaves, not to mention not a fan of having wet feet, I thought they would help. Can't help wondering now if it would have happened at all in no-sole footwear. Maybe I will try the course, before the race, next year in minimalist footwear. We'll see.

Here's some shots of the injury..

Evening of the race and then day after.
This is a photo of the 3rd day.  The 4th day was even worse.

Speaking of next year.. my husband wants to try it next year as well! Although, he wants to do 10k so we'll see. I will just be happy to finally have someone to run WITH as all 6 races I've been on my own.

And finally, resting my ankle 4 days later

Simplifying Meditation with Patchoulimoon (re-post)

A new post on my sister blog site, otherwise known as my Business website. ;-)

Decide, what do you want?  Do you WANT spiritual growth?  Do you WANT inner peace and a sense of calm? And then, there's the biggest question of all.... are you READY???  If you are ready, keep reading.

Setting my Intention

It occurred to me today that, although I have set an intention with my work, maybe I could elaborate on that intention.

On my business cards and somewhere on my website I state, "promoting present moment awareness through yoga, meditation, holistic products, energywork, orgaization and nature" but my personal intention is to do these things and use these products with my True Self (spirit/higher self etc) in charge. The 'thing' that is present any time I am meditating or being mindful or taking a walk in a forest.

My intention is that everyone that makes use of my business feel that peace or that 'heaven on earth' feeling, if only for part of a yoga class or while organizing and de-cluttering your home or even just standing back and looking at the finished product of the organizing.

Do you want more joy and peace in your life? You need to go after it, not wait for it.   Maybe make a list of what makes you feel joyful or more peaceful. DO THOSE THINGS. That is the nature of my business. These things I do and sell bring ME joy and peace. Do I want MORE joy and peace? Of course! What do I need to do..? MORE yoga, meditation, blogging, organizing, use natural products and .... SHARE all those things with YOU!

Be blessed. Because it's a choice.

Hard at work!

I've been hard at work these past 3 days... at creating a BRAND NEW WEBSITE!  It's sleeker, more user-friendly, and more interactive. I'll be ready to launch soon so stay tuned. :-D

Here's a sneak peak....

People often ask me if I do evening yoga and when I was doing Sunday night classes they would ask about weekday evenings. I found Sundays difficult so I stopped and now my answer is... evenings and weekends are not an option.

My family is everything to me and with my husband's busy schedule, it's up to me to be the primary care-giver of our child, our pets and our home. Family is first and I wouldn't trade it for the world!!

If You Only Ask... It Is Given.

With life, in general, there is going to be up-front, mind-blowing beauty...

AND there is going to be nerve-wracking, self-doubt situations that turn into blessings.

Either way, if you are looking for them, they will be found and the blessings will FAR out weigh the tragedies.

May, 2011 I opened a holistic health centre and loved the social aspect with so many lovely people. But, it was a LOT if work, there was no profit in it and many other areas of my life suffered. I didn't even realize how much of my life was taking a back seat until I decided that the work level and lack of profit was at too much of an unbalance to continue.

It's quite the shock to the system to have something that ran a majority of your life to just come to a screeching hault. There were lots of unanswered questions (because those come with time and no urgency) and maybe a couple panic attacks.

Beauty is everywhere. When one door closes, another opens. If you only ask.. It is given.

To Grow is to Evolve

From that life-changing movie, The Secret: "You can start with nothing .. and out of nothing or no way - a WAY will be provided."

I was reminded of this quote as my questions from a few months ago are being shown to me. Those questions... "what will I do with no holistic health centre to run?" "What will I do with no yoga to teach in the Winter?"

My answers... Keep doing what I love and SHARE that. Keep learning about the law of attraction and SHARE that. Keep asking for more and SHARE THAT! To grow means to evolve. I see it happening all around me. And I am blessed. The customers/client will find me. The learning and practice groups will be easy to find. That's just the way it works. With patience. 💚

A Turnaround in a Day of Challenges

It's just a guess... but I think that those who have a perfect life don't have much to inspire others with.

I get that theory from the thought that those who have to learn how to overcome challenges might inspire others with this new found way. "If her life is so messed up and SHE can find relief in it, so can I" sort of thing. Or even, "she tried exercise (or whatever) to find relief, I should try that!"

Today, I didn't have too much on my list of accomplishments. But, what WAS on there ended up being impossible to complete, no matter which way I turned it around and around to try to fit it in place. Letting go is a difficult task, for sure. But, I did it.

My life goal is always fun, bliss, love and inspiration and I was being guided to a few of those things but was fighting it all the way with my 'daily tasks list' I was trying to shove in front of my 'daily life goals list'.

Here's how my morning went: First, I did not get my 'alone time'. Time to centre and steer my day to positivity. This is a MUST for me. The Internet was VERY slow, iTunes not being user-friendly, purchases not working, saying samples were sent (but where??), child... well, being a child, dogs being very noisy since they didn't get enough attention the  previous day and THEN I went to rent a storage space during the only ONE day they are open (Wed 9-1) and there is nobody there. Beyond frustrating!!

Here's where my day turns around... Last on my list was to get some food items so I stopped at the local grocery store. Apparently, this was where I was being drawn to. There was a little clearance sale of random books. I found two that seemed very uplifting. One was by an author that I already had at home.

$16 for $4, packed full of advice. Perfection. Bliss. Even MORE blissful, I decide to start reading it while riding my stationary bike. An hour later and I am inspired and feel healthier, too. Then, later on in the day, when my five year old has the biggest meltdown ever, I am able to cope with it extremely well and 30-ish minutes later we are both (quite happily) taking some quiet alone time in our separate rooms. Nice eh??

Here's a few inspirational phrases that turned my day around:

"I have the right to say "No" without feeling guilty. I have the courage to say "No" without feeling guilty. I pay attention to what I know is right for me."

"I credit my "life account" by setting realistic limits. I have the courage to decide what I will give and what I will not give. My life is blessed by balance and harmony."

And the biggest one, for me, of all:

"I am aware of my limits and I honor them. I give myself permission to keep my life simple. I create the time to do things which nourish me."

My BIG Challenge

My big challenge for today is to NOT TALK!! As much as is humanly possible with a 5 year old, that is.

(Approximately 9 am)

I have been silent for over 2 hours this morning and am reminded of how it feels like melting chocolate in my mouth (blissful) but my daughter has been up for about 10 minutes and I STILL haven't spoken so I'm inspired!!

I asked myself the question "is it even possible to be mindful and peaceful when you have children?" BUT, seeing as mindfulness is true happiness for me that question seemed... daunting.

So, here goes. Watch for my update later on. :-)

   My 'Chatty-Cathy'

(Approximately 10:30 am)

My daughter is also 'attempting' the non-talking day. She said to me, "this is fun momma, talking without opening our mouths." :-)

(Approximately 10:45 am)

Daughter tries to run through the bathroom, as I'm using it, with a parade of dogs following, and I slipped. "Close the door!", I said. :-/

(Approximately 12:00 pm)

And I'm done.  My daughter kept asking a question to there was no motion or 'grunt' which could answer her.  Talking now feels like nails on a chalkboard so I think I'll  do it again.  The experiment is done for the day.  Until we meet again....maybe tomorrow. ;-)

A Great Passion

As she sits in the swing (she put herself in the baby swing) across from me, too far to talk, I am reunited with a great passion. Silence.

I've loved alone time and silence my whole life, growing up as an only child and I know for sure exactly when I started to appreciate this alone time and silence like never before... it was after my daughter learned to talk, more specifically, when she stopped nursing at nearly 3 years old.

It makes perfect sense that a person who loves silence and peace so much would become a yoga and meditation teacher, unfortunate that I didn't find it sooner, but I plan to take full advantage of my passion when my daughter starts school full time in the Fall.  With that said, we've been joined at the hip for a solid month now so I have the occasional panic attack of 'what will I do all alone??' And then I get a reminder.... Ah yes, I will once again be reunited with my old friends. Silence and peace. 💚

                         Some 'peace-makers'

Welcome to my YouTube channel!!

Hi there! Long time no blog (haha).  Actually, the last time I blogged was January 4th, 2012, YOWZERS!! There's a very good reason for that.  Work, child, dogs, cats, and crazy house in general.  When I was blogging on a regular basis I had a housekeeper coming in.  THAT was my time to work and blog.  When she was gone (health problem) so was my blogging (alone) time.  I hope to do better now and am trying my hand at VLOGGING.

So, here is an intro to my YouTube channel and more to come.  Thanks for reading, watching and following!
